Ok so what’s a slice shot: a shot that starts to the left of the target then curves to the right and finishes well to the right of the target, for a right handed player.

The 2 most common reasons why a slice happens is that the swing path (the direction the clubhead is swung) is very much to the left, and the clubface will be ‘open’ or aiming to the right of the swing path because subconciously our mind and the hands (that hold the golf club) want to stop the club swinging so far left it tries to slow the hands and club down from going left to keep the clubface aiming to the target for as long as possible. It may be aiming near the target but to the right of the swing path. With this swing the arms are doing most of the action and very much disconnected from the body because they are trying to do the swing all on their own so they need some room, thats why the hands subconsiously want to try to slow down. We need to control the arms better and activate the hands more so we can control the clubface easier and create a stronger path driving toward our target!

Try this : On you downswing, try to feel like your right arm (for the right handed player) is tucked into your right side, this will feel like your arms are connected up and working easily and powerfully with your body. As you were swinging left before which you thought was straight it may feel like you are swinging out to the right, but is this is a perfect feeling to have. now your path is straight or a little right and the hands and club can drive thru impact aiming at the target sending the ball off straight!
