The morning of round 5 dawned with the bluest skies we’ve seen in 2013 so far – the mercury rose well above the 30 centigrade mark on the day! Despite the final leg of the battle for the Open at Muirfield being the highlight of many golfers calendar, Golf4Fun saw 45 hopeful Rabbits and Tigers take their woods and irons out on the first tee box and attack the dog leg left first fairway with a passion, replete with gummi bears, balls, tee’s, energy drinks, water and even some much needed suntan cream for those who missed out on rounds 3 and 4. And so the challenge of the golf course, and temperatures, began for the Golf4Fun’ers.

Maybe it was those Gummi Bears or the Lion Bars from the mid round snack – we’re not sure where those results came from but we certainly had many winners on the day with some Brutto scores beating what most of us would be happy with for Netto scores on a typical day! Andrea Mathieu topped the Mens Brutto with an impressive 31 Brutto points and took home one month’s membership at Holmes Place. Mark Robertson bagged 2nd place with 27 Brutto points and got shares in Fritz Nols AG for his prowess. But the Ladies were not to be outdone and they put in an equally impressive show as well: Alison scored 28 Brutto points (I can only dream of the day I see that on a ranking list with my name beside it!) and took home 2 day passes for Savognin Berg Bahn for this coming Winter season. Next in line was Bea who romped home with 14 Brutto points and is now the proud winner of a Taylormade Golf Bag.

Moving onto the Netto scoring and, well, its gets even more impressive – our top netto scorer across all categories was a lady – congratulations Nicole for an Impressive 43 points and a new handicap of 14,5. She wasn’t alone with the shiny new improved handicap either! In the Netto 0 – 18 category, Jay went home with HCP 11,5 and a simulator voucher from Golfnow for his 36 Netto points. Andrea obviously wasn’t happy to just win the Brutto category as he also bagged 36 Netto points and finished his day with a new HCP of 4,3 (again I can only dream of the days when I’ll get in those single digits…sigh). 1st time Golf4Fun’er Robert Kees must have also been happy he joined us on the day – his HCP might not have changed but he took home the 100.- CHF voucher from Golf Butler – I wonder if he’ll join us on our upcoming trip to Belek in Decemeber! Bill (William) who loved Rounds 3 & 4 so much he decided to come back for more – no new HCP this time out, but 31 Netto points saw him take home 2 day passes for Savognin Berg Bahn also.

But on a day when Mr Mickelson firmly put his stamp on Muirfield, the ladies certainly showed the boys who were tops in the Netto 18 – PR category. Theresa came home with a whopping 41 Netto points and drove home with a brand new HCP of 25,6 and a Taylormade Golf bag for those golf clubs which are working so well for her! Marion was not far off with 38 Netto points, so she ended her day with not only a new HCP also, but a 100.- CHF voucher for Sibler. Next lady in line was Heidi and 37 Netto points won her a 30 min lesson with PGA Pro Brian Murphy. Finally the men got a look in: Erich got his HCP down to 31,9 and took home a day card for Golfpoint Urdorf while Hein played level and got a Victorinox golf tool for his hard work!

Longest Drive and Nicole was victorious on the day with, a whopping 230 meter tee shot! She’s off to U-nique with a 50.- CHF voucher. In the mens camp, David’s attempt must have been around the 265 meter mark – he goes home with a handy Victorinox golf tool. As does another 1st time Golf4Fun’er James Smith who bagged the Nearest to the Pin landing 2,32m from the flag.

Maybe it was fate, but the ladies didn’t just have a good day on the golf course – newly added sponsor Cosswiss added 5 great products for the ladies which we raffled – congratulations to Evelyn, Alexandra, Siegrund, Nicole and Bea.

Other winners on the day included: Roeland, Georg and Rainer all took home 2 sleeves of Balls from Neiss Bucher Architects Bureau GMBH, John and Markus both scored a 30.- CHF voucher for U-nique and Peter grabbed a day card for Golfpoint Urdorf. Great conditions meant Birdies for lots of happy golferes too – Congrats to Alison, Jay, Patrick, Andrea, Alex and Mark!

So whats been happening to our Leaderboards – after the dust finally settled, the evening cooled down, the mosquitos finally went to sleep and the scores got finally counted: Jay continues to remain top of the Tigers but Freddie has broken that ceiling and climbed to the top of the Rabbits leaderboard – Congratulations to both of you!

Only two rounds left to go on this years tournament series. A part of me is sad to see the season slipping away as I love these tournament days out, seeing so many friendly faces, many of whom have become good friends courtesy of Golf4Fun. Our season final Round 7 will not only see our Rabbits and Tigers getting the spoils for their toils in 2013 – and boy do we have some great prizes for each Leaderboard – (yes you didn’t misread that – for each leaderboard) – we have a full set of RBZ irons from taylormade (thats 4-9 and 4 wedges), a bike from Raleigh, SWISS Golf Traveller Membership, Sundrani Vouchers, Tickets for Arosa Comedy Festival. At our Round 7 season final – even if you didn’t have the best years golfing this year, everyone who has competed in at least one round this year is entered into a prize draw with some great prizes to be won for example – 1 years membership at Holmes Place, 2 tickets worth 800.- CHF with SWISS airline, an overnight stay at the 4* Valsana hotel in Arosa for 2, a Pure Lite Taylormade Standbag, a Stratus Taylormade Standbag.
